(Breda, the Netherlands) 24 February 2025 – Valentine’s Day is more than just a celebration of love; it’s a prime opportunity for hotels to boost revenue through selling ancillary services. With this year’s holiday falling over a weekend, hotels in Europe captured significant revenue by offering enticing add-ons that elevated the guest experience over Valentine’s Day.
According to RoomRaccoon, a leading all-in-one hotel management system, popular Valentine’s Day add-ons included romantic packages, champagne and fine wines, late check-outs, unique dining experiences, and spa treatments. This data is based on an analysis of thousands of independent properties across key European markets, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France.
Arriving to find a chilled bottle of bubbles in your room is the perfect way to start a celebration. This Valentine’s Day, over 3600 guests chose to enhance their stay with champagne, wine, and prosecco, with some splurging on bottles valued at up to €500. This add-on ranked in the top five across all monitored countries, with the UK seeing 32% of all add-ons sold as bottles of champagne or wine.
Over 1800 guests opted to extend their romantic getaway by adding late check-outs to their bookings. This Valentine’s Day, late check-outs ranked among the top five most popular add-ons in all markets as guests chose to make the most of their romantic getaway. In the UK, the demand was particularly strong with 11% of all add-ons purchased on February 14th being late check-outs.
For many hotels, romantic packages proved to be a significant revenue driver. In the UK, 12% of add-ons sold were romantic packages, which included everything from candlelit dinners to couples’ massages.
Beyond these top sellers, other sought-after add-ons included hot air balloon rides, breakfast in bed, artisanal chocolates, private boat hires, and romantic room décor such as flowers and rose petals on the bed—showing that guests were eager to go the extra mile for an unforgettable stay.
